Abstract

Abstract The generated output voltage from photovoltaic (PV) module needs to be stepped up to satisfy load demands. Dc/dc boost converters are mandatory in the utilization of PV systems. The tasks assigned to the boost converter are: extracts the maximum power from the PV panel and elevates PV panel output voltage to a higher level convenient to load demands. For achieving such targets, different step-up topologies have been proposed and studied in the literature. Some topologies are able to achieve a high step-up ratio, but with moderate efficiency and others suffer from high voltage stresses on the active devices. In this manuscript, a new high gain dc/dc converter is proposed that can be used with applications that require elevating output voltage to higher voltage-level such as grid-tied PV applications. The proposed configuration is able to achieve high-voltage-gain, compared to any other transformerless topologies. The voltage stresses on the active MOSFETs are lower than half of the output voltage. Hence low rated components are selected. The principles of operation of the two configurations are analyzed in details. Hardware prototype is implemented in the lab, in order to verify the analytical analysis of the topology.
